The Litter Pick 25th April 2010

We did it!!!!

A massive thank-you to everyone who came and helped and boy, did we pick some litter! I reckon there was about 20 of us in all.

From beer cans to car tyres, cider bottles to sweet wrappers…. there was a load of it and I think we all deserve a cup of tea, or something stronger, after what was a back-breaking day. The hardest bit was getting all the bags to the pick-up point.

The greenway looks so much better already and it was really good to see the instant impact that we made today. Superb to get out and do some conservation work and lovely weather for it too.

Hi Paul, cheers for organising today & good to meet other “locals” of Cawston. Be good to have a go at the pond behind Cave, next to the park at some point but will need more thought, Brian & i spent a couple of hours and got at some of the rubbish but more to do.
Keep us posted of any more events, A&B

It felt good to tackle all the litter and make a real difference even though it was back breaking work. Next time perhaps the stongest people could go along the greenway collecting full bags and handing out new bags before they get too heavy. Maybe a wheelbarrow would be useful. Any other ideas for next time?

  3. Drinks and a BBQ so we can all have something to eat and socialise at the end, maybe??? Or just go to the Bear for a drink??

What a difference a day makes! Cawston Greenway looks beautiful just as nature intended without all that litter. I spotted lots of bumble bees today so it is great to know we are protecting their habitat too. A drink at the Bear sounds like a good reward to me 🙂
