Three Men, Two Fires, Lots Cleared.

John, Aaron and me today and we started to clear all the brash from last week. It just seemed like endless toil, but we got two fires going and piled them high.

There is still a little bit left to do next week, but we can crack on with that whilst Mick starts brush-cutting the scrub on the other side of the bridge.

The whole cutting on this side of the bridge is open and starting to dry out. There will be plenty of sunlight and dappled shade in the summer.

Looking down the path as the fires die down. We felt today that we had made huge progress in this cutting. It really started to feel well managed and ready for spring.

Same place next week, probably an hour on this side and then start pushing down on the other side of the bridge.

Great work today.

Good stuff. What happened at the Berrybanks clearing? Someone seems to have been in with industrial equipment and felled some huge trees, whilst clearing a much larger area.

Butterfly Conservation want to rip it out and turn it into a habitat for endangered species. It looks like carnage now, but will look good if we can manage the nettles and allow a wild flower seed mix to take hold.
